July 15 - August 22, 2026
Melodrama by Giacomo Puccini

Performed in Italian with German surtitles
Running time approx. 2.5 hours (excluding intermission)

A story of love, jealousy, violence, and intrigue meets breathtaking music: With Giacomo Puccini's melodrama Tosca, one of the world's most beloved operas returns to the St. Margarethen quarry, Europe's most beautiful open-air stage, in 2026.

Rome, around 1800. The singer Floria Tosca and the painter Mario Cavaradossi fall hopelessly in love, but the unscrupulous police chief Scarpia is determined to destroy their happiness and will stop at nothing to manipulate Tosca and win her for himself. When Cavaradossi offers refuge to the wanted political prisoner Angelotti, Scarpia abuses his power and presents Tosca with a choice: either she swears her eternal love to him, or he will ensure Cavaradossi's death. Will Tosca and her lover be able to overcome the shadows of fate?

Giacomo Puccini delivers a musical rollercoaster of emotions – from Tosca's poignant "Vissi d'arte" to Cavaradossi's powerful "Recondita armonia" and Scarpia's somber aria "Ha più forte sapore." A firework display of emotions with captivating melodies that find their perfect echo in the rocky landscape of the St. Margarethen quarry.
