23 municipalities in the Salzkammergut have been chosen as European Capital of Culture 2024. This is the first time in the history of this European cultural initiative. The Salzkammergut is a paradise for cycling. Explore the combination of lakes, mountains and world-famous places such as Hallstatt or Bad Ischl, both of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, on leisurely day trips. In the rustic inns you can enjoy delicacies from the region and meet people who are deeply rooted in their traditions.
 
Accommodation: Accommodation is in a 3* hotel or inn in Bad Goisern. The rooms are comfortably furnished and have a bathtub or shower/WC, TV and most of them Internet/WLAN. Parking spaces and electric charging options (for a fee) are available. Payable locally: local tax.

Individual arrival to Bad Goisern and handover of the bike tour documents at the hotel. Overnight stay in Bad Goisern.
2 day:
Bike tour to Bad Ischl, approx. 25 km
You start your first bike tour to Bad Ischl, the center of the Capital of Culture 2024. The city offers visitors a colorful program for the Capital of Culture year. The “Salt Lake City” exhibition focuses on salt – the region’s lifeline. We also recommend a visit to the Imperial Villa, the summer residence of the Habsburgs, and a coffee break in the Zauner pastry shop. On the way back to Bad Goisern there is still the opportunity to visit the exhibition “The Journey of Pictures” in Lauffen and the HAND.WERK.HAUS in Bad Goisern. Overnight stay in Bad Goisern.
3 day:
Round trip to Lake Hallstatt, approx. 30 km
During your cycling holiday in Austria, you cycle along the eastern shore of Lake Hallstatt at a leisurely pace. You take the liner to Hallstatt. Enjoy the view of the untouched natural landscape of the Hallstatt-Dachstein region (UNESCO World Heritage Site) – simply incredibly beautiful. Tip: Visit the Hallstatt Museum in Hallstatt. Overnight stay in Bad Goisern.
4 day:
Bike tour to Gmunden, approx. 40 km
With the ÖBB Regional Express you make your way to Gmunden, the City of Ceramics. Along the way, immerse yourself in an interactive experience about the history of the region. Ceramics accompanies you every step of the way in the town on Lake Traunsee: the carillon in the town hall or the works of art in the ceramics factory. As part of the Capital of Culture year 2024, there will be a variety of events on the subject of crafts and ceramics. Cycle back along the cycle path along Lake Traunsee and the Traun to Bad Goisern. This bike day tour can also be shortened with a boat trip on Lake Traunsee. Overnight stay in Bad Goisern.
5 day:
Bike tour to Ausseerland, approx. 35 km
Today you will take the ÖBB Regional Express again, which will take you to Bad Aussee in the Styrian Salzkammergut. Tip: The exhibition “The Journey of Pictures” in the Kammerhofmuseum in Bad Aussee tells the adventurous journey of Nazi-looted art. The final bike tour in Styria takes you to Grundlsee. Let the beguiling beauty of the Ausseerland work its magic on you. She is breathtaking and unforgettable. Overnight stay in Bad Goisern.
6 day:
Individual journey home or additional nights

General information
The bike tours do not present any technical difficulties; there are only a few climbs! However, some physical fitness and the will for endurance are required, as well as cycling equipment such as closed sneakers, backpack, sun and rain protection, functional clothing, jacket and sweater. The bike tours mainly lead on dedicated cycle paths and side roads with little traffic. For sections on federal roads, a boat or train journey is an alternative. The route is largely asphalted and ideal for touring bikes and trekking bikes.
