Your hiking tour

Day 1:
Individual arrival at Lake Traunsee and check-in at the hotel.
Tip: Gmunden, the City of Ceramics, offers a variety of events on the subject of crafts and ceramics. Overnight stay at Lake Traunsee.
Day 2:
Traunsee – Grünberg – Laudachsee, approx. 20 km, ascent and descent approx. 700 m each, walking time approx. 6 hours + train journey
Start the first tour of your hiking holiday in Upper Austria to the Grünberg. You will soon reach Gmunden again via Lake Laudachsee and the Miesweg. Take the ÖBB Regional Express to Bad Ischl. Along the way, you'll take part in the region's history in an interactive way. Bad Ischl is the center of the Capital of Culture 2024 and offers visitors a colorful program: “Salt Lake City” exhibition, imperial villa, Zauner pastry shop, drinking hall and much more. Fans of classical music take note: There are many concert events taking place in Bad Ischl. Tickets can be booked optionally. Overnight stay in Bad Ischl or the surrounding area.
Day 3:
Bad Ischl – Bad Goisern approx. 15 km, ascent and descent approx. 1,000 hm each, walking time approx. 6 hours
The hiking trip in the Inner Salzkammergut takes you over the Katrin, the Ischler's local mountain, to Bad Goisern. When visibility is good, you can enjoy an impressive view of seven lakes as you walk. The path leads you down the valley to Weißenbach and further into the center of Bad Goisern. We recommend the exhibition The Journey of Pictures in Lauffen and a visit to the HAND.WERK.HAUS in Bad Goisern. Overnight stay in Bad Goisern.
TIP: Book an additional night in Bad Goisern. On the one hand, a rest day is an advantage, but on the other hand, this day is perfect for a trip to the 2,042 meter high Krippenstein. Probably the most spectacular viewing platform in the Alps offers a breathtaking view over Lake Hallstatt at a depth of 400 meters. We recommend a boat trip to Obertraun, ascent and descent with the Krippenstein cable car, return trip to Bad Goisern by train (payable locally).
Day 4:
Hallstatt – Bad Aussee approx. 16 km, ascent approx. 300 m, descent approx. 150 m, walking time approx. 5 hours
You make your way to Hallstatt with the Regional Express. On the way, you will immerse yourself in the interactive experience about the history of the region. On this day of the Salzkammergut hike you can choose from 2 tour variants. You can either take the ship to Hallstatt and visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The lakeside hiking trail takes you to Obertraun and further along the Koppentraun to Bad Aussee. Or you can walk along the east bank hiking trail to Obertraun and along the wild Koppentraun at a leisurely pace and comfortable stages into the Ausseerland to Bad Aussee. Tip: Visit the Hallstatt Museum in Hallstatt and the exhibition The Journey of Pictures in the Kammerhof Museum in Bad Aussee. Overnight stay in Bad Aussee.
Day 5:
Circular hike to the Altaussee salt mines approx. 17 km, ascent and descent approx. 500 m each, walking time approx. 5 hours
The last hike as part of the Salzkammergut Capital of Culture 2024 takes you along the Altausseer Traun to Altaussee and further uphill to the Pflindsberg ruin observation tower. Gentle hiking trails in Ausseerland reach Lake Altausseer and Bad Aussee. Tip: We recommend visiting the Steinberghaus Simon Schwartz comic exhibition or the Altaussee salt mine, which was a hiding place and storage facility for valuable art and cultural assets during the Nazi era. Overnight stay in Bad Aussee.
Day 6:
Return train journey to Lake Traunsee and individual journey home or additional nights
With the already well-known Regional_Express you travel back to Lake Traunsee, the end of your hiking trip in Upper Austria.
