Discover the mountains and lakes of the Salzkammergut on selected cycling trails
Crystal-clear lakes, historic towns, and picturesque villages – the idyllic Salzkammergut is arguably one of the most scenic regions in the Alps. As part of Upper Austria, Salzburger Land, and Styria, it is unique due to the long-standing salt mining that has had a lasting impact on the cultural area. These characteristics also convinced the UNESCO Committee, which added the Hallstatt-Dachstein/Salzkammergut region to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1997. During the cycling tour, you can enjoy the impressive landscape, a combination of lakes and mountains, from the saddle. The trail leads to six of the region's most popular lakes, past impressive mountain peaks, such as the Dachstein Massif, and to cultural sights of the region.

General Information
The bike tours are not technically difficult; there are only a few climbs! However, some physical fitness and a willingness to endure are required, as are cycling gear such as closed-toe sneakers, a backpack, sun and rain protection, functional clothing, a jacket, and a sweater, etc. The routes are easily accessible with hybrid bikes – they mostly run on paved bike paths, with a few sections also on gravel roads and forest trails. If you'd like to spend a more leisurely day, you can of course cover part of the route by public transport such as a train or boat.
