Albertina modern

The ALBERTINA MODERN is one of the largest museums for modern and contemporary art. On over 2,000 square meters the ALBERTINA MODERN presents comprehensive exhibitions of modern and contemporary Art, consisting of the own painting collection and above all, major works of theEssl collection home to ALBERTINA Museum since 2017.

KAWS - ART & COMICS

In the 1990s, the American artist KAWS first became known for his graffiti. He painted over posters and adverts in public spaces and marked faces on posters with crossed-out eyes. These are now his trademark and adorn his oversized figurative sculptures. The exhibition at the ALBERTINA MODERN places KAWS in a dialogue with artists such as Keith Haring, Claes Oldenburg and many others. Comics are understood as a universal form of graphic storytelling and their interaction with positions in contemporary art is examined. Due to their universal codes, comic figures appeal to all age groups and social classes and guide us through the presentation.
