Description

Threaded like pearls, the alpine pastures in the Gastein valley stretch to the border of the Hohe Tauern National Park, the largest nature reserve in the Alps. Enjoy regional delicacies and Austrian hospitality during your visit to the rustic alpine huts and get to know the everyday life of the alpine dairymen and women at first hand. You carry your luggage yourself during the tour from Alm to Alm.
Please note that the tour is weather dependent! There is always the possibility of relegation.
 
Accommodation: You will be accommodated is in 3* inns/hotels in comfortably furnished rooms with bath or shower/toilet, TV and mostly internet/WLAN. You spend 3 nights in huts in shared rooms with bunk beds or mattresses and shared showers/toilets. You have to bring your own sleeping bag, pillowcase and towel in the huts. Due to their location, not all cabins can offer running water, hot water or showers. Sometimes there is no flushing water in the toilets. Dogs on request - are not allowed in the dormitory. Accompanied overnight stays in the winter room, some kennels available. Extra payments on site.

Route
Day 1
:
Individual arrival in Dorfgastein to your first accommodation. You will receive the travel documents (maps, further information, vouchers, etc.) at the first hotel. You park your car free of charge during the hiking period and can also leave luggage at the hotel or leave it in the car that you do not need for the 4-day hut tour. Overnight stay in Dorfgastein.
Day 2:
Circular hike to the Steiner Hochalm: approx. 12 km, 5.5 hours, elevation gain/descent: 730 / 730 m
Directly from your hotel in Dorfgastein you hike steadily up to the Steiner Hochalm with a wonderful panorama of the Gastein Valley. Here the Alm invites you to take a long break. At the end of this circular hike you will reach Dorfgastein again. Overnight stay in Dorfgastein.
Day 3:
Hike to Heinreichalm or further to Präau Hochalm: approx. 14.5 km, 8 hours, elevation gain/descent: 1,470 m / 630 m
Today's stage requires good fitness and is rewarded with a unique landscape. From Dorfgastein you first hike to the Amoser Hochalm and continue along the Almenweg to the Heinreichalm, which scores particularly well with its excellent alpine snack from its own farm. The cabin's location is ideal for viewing wildlife on the opposite slopes.
Alternative route: approx. 10 km, 4 hours, elevation gain/descent: 850 m / 20 m
Alternatively, you can climb past the Kokaseralm and take a more direct route to the Heinreichalm.
Overnight stay at the Heinreichalm or Präau Hochalm (+ approx. 2 km or 45 min)
Day 4:
High-altitude hike from the Heinrichalm to the Biberalm – probably the most beautiful view of the Gastein Valley. Refreshments available on the way to the Präau Hochalm at 1809m
approx. 10 km, 5 hours, elevation gain/descent: 802 m / 756 m
Overnight stay on the Biberalm
Day 5:
Accompanied by chamois and eagles, the alpine path continues to the Hofgasteinerhaus. On the way you pass 3 managed alpine pastures which invite you to take a break. The Hofgasteinerhaus is located directly at the mountain station of the Schlossalmbahn, which leads to Bad Hofgastein
approx. 8.5 km, 5 hours, elevation gain/descent: 787 m / 558 m
Overnight stay in the Hofgasteinerhaus.
Day 6:
After a hearty mountain breakfast, hike from the Hofgasteinerhaus to the Hirschenhütte: approx. 10 km, 4 hours, elevation gain/descent: 371 m / 1,135 m
From here you take the bus transfer (according to the timetable) to Bad Hofgastein and from there the public bus to Dorfgastein to your starting point. Total bus costs approx. EUR 11.00. Taxi transfers from the hut landlord are also offered.
Overnight stay in the hotel at the starting point in Dorfgastein.
Day 7:
Individual journey home or additional nights.
 
Requirements and general information

You will be in high alpine terrain throughout the entire tour. Appropriate mountain equipment and endurance are therefore a prerequisite. The necessary equipment includes: mountain boots, functional clothing, backpack, water and food, rain and sun protection, first aid kit, cell phone, possibly hiking sticks, etc. Your route will be immortalized by your entry in every hut book. The paths are well signposted, but markings may be obscured by remaining snow. Map material and routing are therefore important companions to your tour. Accompaniment by an experienced hiking guide on request and for an additional charge!
