At a length of 380 kilometers, the Austrian Romantic Road connects the most beautiful landscapes in Austria like a string of pearls between Salzburg and Vienna. Magnificent lake and mountain panoramas and numerous places that are particularly worth seeing.

Your Bike Ride


Day 1:
Individual arrival in Salzburg.
You will receive your travel documents and rental bikes in your accommodation. Overnight in Salzburg.
Day 2:
Salzburg-Mondsee. Daily stage: approx. 35 km Altitude gain/descent: 383 / 302 m
Start in Salzburg; along the river Salzach you drive to Salzburg North and there on the Salzkammergut cycle path in the direction of Eugendorf, Thalgau to Mondsee. Overnight at Mondsee.
Day 3:
Mondsee-Bad Ischl. Daily stage: approx. 39 km Altitude gain/descent: 435 / 455 m
Drive along the lake to Scharfling. After a short ascent over the Scharfling Pass, you will reach Lake Wolfgang. On the lakeside cycle path to Strobl and on to Bad Ischl. Overnight stay in Bad Ischl.
Day 4:
Bad Ischl-Hallstatt. Daily stage: approx. 47 km Altitude gain/descent: 929 / 929 m
You ride along the Traun to Bad Goisern and on the east bank cycle path to Hallstatt. You now have two options: Cycle around Lake Hallstatt via Obertraun to Hallstatt (approx. 5 km) or take the ferry from Hallstatt train station to Hallstatt Markt across Lake Hallstatt. Return by bike from Hallstatt to Bad Ischl. Overnight stay in Bad Ischl.
Day 5:
Bad Ischl – Grein train ride
The bikes are taken back at the service center in Bad Ischl and you take the train and your luggage from Bad Ischl to Grein or, if booked, a transfer to Grein. Overnight stay in Grein.
Day 6:
Grein-Emmersdorf. Daily stage: approx. 62 km Altitude gain/descent: 252 / 432 m
Delivery of the bikes for the following days at the hotel.
Start today's bike tour in Grein and through the romantic Strudengau and drive to the beautiful Danube region. Passing the Roman village of Ybbs, we continue to Melk - also known as the "Gateway to the Wachau". There we recommend a visit to Melk Abbey. Your destination, Emmersdorf, is on the opposite bank of the Danube. Overnight stay in Emmersdorf.
Day 7:

Emmersdorf-Krems. Daily stage: approx. 35 km Altitude gain/descent: 233 / 257 m
Gentle vineyards characterize your cycle path to Krems. You can choose which bank of the Danube you will ride along today. We recommend (preferred by most cyclists) the left bank of the Danube with the beautiful towns of Spitz, Weißkirchen and Dürnstein. Overnight stay in Krems.
Day 8:
Krems-Tulln. Daily stage: approx. 46 km Altitude gain/descent: 17 / 36 m
Today's bike tour takes you to the Roman town of Tulln. The S-Bahn takes you to the center of Vienna. From there drive to the hotel on your own. The capital of Austria has a lot to offer: Schönbrunn Palace with zoo, St. Stephen's Cathedral, Ringstrasse, Albertina, Museum Quarter and much more. Overnight stay in Vienna.
Day 9:

Drop off the rental bikes at the hotel in Vienna. Individual departure or extra nights.

General information
The bike tours do not present any technical difficulties; there are only a few inclines! However, some physical fitness and the will to persevere are prerequisites, as well as cycling equipment such as closed sneakers, backpack, sun and rain protection, functional clothing, jacket and sweater, etc. You are welcome to book a bike through Salzkammergut Touristik GmbH! If you want to spend a day more quietly, you can of course cover part of the route by public transport such as bus, train or boat.
