Activities

The “National Park Region” includes 20 towns, most of which have Almliesl holiday accommodation. The guests of the places enjoy various highlights and attractions of the region, such as: The largest waterfalls in Europe - the Krimml Waterfalls. The Großglockner with its 3,798 meters of altitude, with its imposing glacier and the eventful ascent, is a popular destination. The Großglockner Resort Kals-Matrei is the largest ski area in East Tyrol. Sillian, located in the East Tyrolean Pustertal, is one of the largest East Tyrolean communities and lies directly at the foot of the 2,440 m high Thurntaler. The popular Alpe-Adria-Trail, a well-known long-distance hiking tour, also starts at the foot of the Großglockner and leads through Carinthia, Friuli and Slovenia to the sea.
The Rauris Valley at around 950m above sea level is spectacular. For this it is not necessary to set oversized adventure parks in the landscape - this valley, in the middle of the Hohe Tauern National Park, does it all by itself. Rauris is called the "secret jewel" of the national park, which is proven by the following natural features: In addition to lush alpine pastures and glaciers, the centuries-old Rauris primeval forest with protected and excellent treasures and also the Rauris Urquell are impressive. More than 300 precious springs, imposing waterfalls and freezing cold mountain streams bear witness to the abundance of water in the region. In addition to all the natural treasures, however, real treasures can also be found. Gold was mined here until the last century and it is rumored that up to 120 tons of the precious metal still slumber in the mountains.
After your long day in nature, a relaxed barbecue evening should be on the agenda. Depending on your taste, a gas grill or a charcoal grill are available. You can get the right grilled food and many more delicacies in "Kathrin's shop". The owners of the hut run the popular Gasthof Andrelwirt in the valley, about 8 km away. Come by and enjoy the regional specialties of the house.
Tip: A recommendation from the hosts is a visit to the "Valley of the Vultures" - in the Krumltal. The kings of the air circle here. So don't forget your binoculars.

Winter fun

In winter, in addition to the well-known ski areas such as Zell am See-Kaprun, Gastein, Kitzsteinhorn Kaprun and Maiskogel or the Zillertal Arena, the focus is also on the small, fine areas. They score with great family specials and attractive prices.
These include: Rauris ski area, Grossarltal, Wildkogel Arena, Nagelkoepfel in Piesendorf, Weißsee Gletscherwelt in Uttendorf. The Mölltal Glacier/Flattach is the highest and snowiest ski mountain on Austria's southern side of the Alps. Skiing fun extends up to 3,122 meters above sea level.
