Programme:

Just an hour's drive from Vienna, in the Viennese Alps, culture and history meet nature and regional indulgence. The eventful history of Wiener Neustadt, the gateway to the Vienna Alps, is directly linked to the Austrian Empire. Founded in 1192 with the ransom for Richard the Lionheart by the Babenbergs, the "always faithful" experienced its heyday under the Habsburgs in the 15th century, when Emperor Friedrich III. chosen the city as the imperial residence.

Here, in the Neustadt Castle, his son Maximilian I was born and baptized in 1459. He is also buried here in the magnificent St. George's Cathedral. In 1751, Empress Maria Theresia converted the imperial castle into a noble cadet house. This famous "Theresian Military Academy", the only training facility for officers of the Austrian Armed Forces, still exists today, making it the oldest military academy in the world. During an informative city walk you will find the traces of the Habsburgs and especially the "Last Knight" at original locations.

Afterwards you will visit the Theresian Military Academy in the castle and learn what the inscription A.E.I.O.U is all about, why Emperor Maximilian I is buried between heaven and earth, and how officer training works today. You will have your lunch in a traditional inn in the city.

Following lunch you will reach the Hohe Wand, a 1,132 meter high karst plateau and impressive nature park. The Mohr-Sederl fruit world is located here. The best fruits of the best quality are processed in the family business into 100% naturally cloudy fruit juices, musts and distillates. During a tour of the production facility, you will learn how the delicacies are made and you can try out the extensive range. A commented tasting of 4 distillates ends the tour. Use the remaining time for a detour to the Hohe Wand and enjoy the breathtaking view from the “Skywalk” viewing terrace while you watch the paragliders take off (not included in the price).
