Student Group Trip: Mauthausen and Steyr
Experience history up close – your journey to Mauthausen and Steyr
You have the chance to bring history to life! On this two-day trip, you will learn what happened in the region’s past and what we can learn from it today. First, we take a guided tour through the Mauthausen Concentration Camp Memorial, where you will gain insight into a dark chapter of history and understand why remembrance is so important. In the evening, you will explore Steyr in a very special way – on an exciting Night Watchman Tour through the old town, full of myths and stories. The next morning, you will go deep underground into the “Tunnel of Remembrance”, where you will learn about the role Steyr played during the Second World War. Two days full of history and new perspectives – are you ready? Note: The visit is recommended for students aged 14 and above (8th grade). Trip Duration: 2 days, 1 night
Accommodation: Harry’s Home Hotel, Steyr
Day 1
- Morning: Departure by bus to the Mauthausen Concentration Camp Memorial
- Midday: Arrival at the memorial and guided tour (2–3 hours). The tour offers deep insight into the history and the events that took place here
- Afternoon: Continue to Steyr and check-in at Harry’s Home Hotel
- Evening: BGuided Night Watchman Tour through the historic old town of Steyr. Participants will experience an exciting and informative walk through the picturesque alleys of Steyr
Day 2
- Morning: Breakfast at the hotel. Breakfast is included in the price. Additionally, students can receive a packed lunch for the onward journey upon request and for a small additional fee
- Forenoon: Visit to the “Tunnel of Remembrance” in Steyr with a guided tour – a moving insight into Steyr’s history during the Second World War
- Midday: Departure by bus back to school
