Schönbrunn Zoo
Welcome to the world's oldest zoo!
The zoo was founded in 1752 as a "menagerie" by empress Maria Theresia and Franz Stephan, and today the zoo Schönbrunn is not only a part of the UNESCO world culture heritage, but it also counts to the most modern zoos in the world and has been awarded the best Zoo in Europe 2010. The zoo is imbedded in the baroque ambience of the Schlosspark, a fascinating biosphere, providing insights into life of more than 4.000 animals from all continents – no matter at what time of the year.
From A like anteater to Z like zebra: the zoo offers a tour through all continents presenting fascinating animals such as Giant Pandas, Siberian tigers, orangutans, Indian Rhinoceroses, koalas and elephants. Dive into the world of the Amazon and experience the tropic rain forest.
Another attraction is the Zoo ORANG.erie. In addition to the new orang-utan habitats the ORANG.erie also shelters the gallery house, a café and the up to 10m high canopy walkway with spectacular views to the zoo, the palace and the city.
Watch exotic animals at night! A special guidance through the zoo with a night-vision device makes it possible. The guidances are provided during the whole year. Rate and dates on request.
