| The Wiener Schubertbund and the Schubertiades |
Franz Schubert:Born on 31st of January 1797 in Vienna, died on 19th of November 1828 thereat, lived only 31 years and composed over 600 songs, 70 of these are musical versions of poems from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Schubert is one of the most important composers and composed besides his songs six Latin and one German mass, eight symphonies, therefrom one fragment, nine overtures, 21 piano sonatas and chamber music. The Schubertiades:Already during Franz Schubert’s life, a circle of friends of the famous Viennese composer met to so-called “Schubertiades” at which music were played together. This tradition is maintained in the courtyard of Franz Schubert’s birthplace. The Wiener Schubertbund, one of Vienna’s most important Viennese male choir under conduction of Prof. Fritz Brucker, organizes Schubertiades at Schuberts Geburtshaus, 1090 Wien, Nußdorfer Strasse 54.
